An error occurred while saving the comment Adminedjez (Admin, GeoChat) commentedThis is a great idea and we've heard similar suggestions in the past. Bridging GeoChat to query and update a simple and free online database thats easy to edit like google spreadsheets would definitely be a plus. We would like to know how feel they should allow access to share the spreadsheet - e.g. add a GeoChatDocSharing 'user' to your google doc so GeoChat has access would be OK? Obviously we wouldn't ask for your gmail password :)

An error occurred while saving the comment Adminedjez (Admin, GeoChat) commentedHi Andrew- thx for your feedback. Try clicking on 'save view' on the 'Views' menu in the top right of the map - This will become your new default and you can revert to it with one click after zooming/panning around manually to explore other areas. an option would be to have the zoom change to automatically include all posts in that group so you would naturally get the neighborhood/city effect.
Would you be willing to take the time to explicitly define the viewport for each group or would you rather GeoChat tried to infer it automatically? -

An error occurred while saving the comment Adminedjez (Admin, GeoChat) commentedThat's a great idea for an app that can be built with a GeoChat application through the APIs! http://geochathelp.com/doku.php?id=api:documentation

An error occurred while saving the comment Adminedjez (Admin, GeoChat) commentedI think this is a great idea we will see if we can sneak it into an ongoing release, or plan it for the next one (they happen every 6 weeks), thank you

We are very aware of this, obviously. The first step – in the ongoing release in september- is to finalize the APIs (http and SMS) that will simplify developing these sort of apps.
There is now an open source app for android at smslocation.googlecode.com and one for iPhone at iengage.googlephone.com -

An error occurred while saving the comment Adminedjez (Admin, GeoChat) commentedTrying to see what the issue is, and I think I have it - when Iridium sends emails the subject is one thing that is always fixed and the content always goes in the body of the message.

Subject: SMS from 8816xxxxxxxx@msg.iridium.com

Body: Hello!this would appear in GeoChat as "SMS from 8816xxxxxxxx@msg.iridium.com" - not very useful!

An error occurred while saving the comment Adminedjez (Admin, GeoChat) commentedWe have released the Java Local gateway, that supports local persistent queues and uses the same base serial protocol library as FrontlineSMS. We have even contributed back to the library so Frontline SMS will benefit!
An error occurred while saving the comment Adminedjez (Admin, GeoChat) commentedWe are starting to do a little bit of work in porting the local gateway to Java, which would be a first step. We also have to see if Frontline would want this to happen, but I suspect they would.

An error occurred while saving the comment Adminedjez (Admin, GeoChat) commentedWould you like to see those stats in the group properties page? Or are you referring to the the date/time on the message stream on the left? (for the ones on the message stream, maybe a click on the date/time field could toggle it between relative and absolute)

Thanks Luke. Are you suggesting integrating packet radio locations with a user profile e.g. to update the position (and then send messages via normal SMS?) that could be done easily by someone with APRS experience and very basic programming knowledge. Any volunteers you know?
