An error occurred while saving the comment As a workaround, I type in the decimal degrees on a new entry to get me out of the Atlantic Ocean and into my area. Two decimal points is enough for me and much faster than dragging and zooming.

We are very aware of this, obviously. The first step – in the ongoing release in september- is to finalize the APIs (http and SMS) that will simplify developing these sort of apps.
There is now an open source app for android at smslocation.googlecode.com and one for iPhone at iengage.googlephone.com
I've been trying to set up two groups, one with mainly expats and one mainly Nigerians. In both groups, a major problem seems to be the barrier of understanding what the group is and how to join. The instructions are clear to us geeks but not to everyone. So I have to use FrontlineSMS & email to send a heads-up beforehand, and more for follow-up, just to get people joined. So a better set of instructions, starting with a customized SMS message, would be great.
