We are very aware of this, obviously. The first step – in the ongoing release in september- is to finalize the APIs (http and SMS) that will simplify developing these sort of apps.
There is now an open source app for android at smslocation.googlecode.com and one for iPhone at iengage.googlephone.comAn error occurred while saving the comment lukembeckman commentedhttp://iengage.googlephone.com/ doesn't seem to be a live link anymore. Does this mean the app is done or has it moved?

You can achieve this today by:
1) Creating all the custom locations (building names, numbers etc) under the groups’ properties.
2) If you think that existing base maps aren’t enough (see http://tinyurl.com/yzqp9yn for an example) you can add your own KML layer with a more detailed blueprint. One challenge to keep in mind is buildings with many floors; you can be pragmatic and choose custom location names that reflect that.

To be honest I need to learn more about packet radio but this is a requirement I've heard from many. I will reach out to Craig- My initial hope would be to allow messages to be sent via APRS and they all get overlaid into GeoChat (along with the users location). This would seem to be a nice starting point and evolve it from there.
